Stoneham Cup Final Report

Teams, caddies and supporters from Alresford, Barton-on-Sea, Stoneham and Sandford Springs arrived on a beautifully sunny day at North Hants Golf Club on 22nd September.

The first semi-final took place between Alresford and Barton-on-Sea with Lynne Cowser from Alresford and Amanda Green from Barton-on-Sea with both players striking great shots onto the green on the Par 3 first hole.
The first match was won by Alresford and in the second match, Barton-on-Sea prevailed to level the scores. However, the following three matches were all won by Alresford, and therefore secured their place in the final.

The next semi-final followed between Stoneham and Sandford Springs. Sandford Springs came through winning the first 4 matches and so the last 3 pairs were called in and the final was decided.

After a quick lunchtime turnaround, the final got underway, with a slight change to the Sandford Springs team.

Again, Lynne Cowser from Alresford started the afternoon off at the 1st tee followed by Lynne Bray from Sandford Springs.

By the time the teams were through the 9th hole, all the matches were very close with Sandford Springs marginally ahead in 6 of the 7 matches.

However, Alresford started fighting back and won the 1st match but Sandford Springs held on and won the next 3 matches. Alresford then won match 5 and Sandford Springs only needed one more match to claim the Trophy. This they did on match 6, although the matches were all incredibly close.

The spirit in the Clubhouse afterwards was electric, both from the winners and the runners up and everyone enjoyed the day.
