The First Team is managed by County Captain, Eilean Cunningham, and represents Hampshire at the South Region County Match Week (CMW). In 2026, Sussex will host the event at Worthing GC from 21st-24th June 2026. Hampshire will compete against Kent, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex in a round-robin format, comprising two foursomes matches and three singles matches against each county. The squad is announced after County Championship Week at Stoneham GC from 13th-17th May 2026. Further details about CMW will be published here in due course.
The successful County represents South Region in the English Women's County Finals from 27th - 31st July 2026 at Betchworth Park GC, Surrey. With effect from 2026, the six regional winning counties plus the Runners-up from the following regions will qualify for the national finals:
2026 - Runners-Up North & South Region
2027 - Runners-Up Midlands (North) & East Region
2028 - Runners-Up Midlands (South) & South-West Region
The 8 qualifying teams will be drawn into two leagues of four. After a team practice round on Day 1 (Monday), Days 2-4 (Tuesday-Thursday) comprises League (County v County in a round-robin format); 3 foursomes matches (each morning) and 6 singles matches (each afternoon). Day 5 (Friday) determines the overall winner and Runner-Up (Winner League 1 v Winner League 2) and the overall places (ie. 2nd League 1 v 2nd League 2 for 3rd/4th place, 3rd League 1 v 3rd League 2 for 5th/6th place, and 4th League 1 v 4th League 2 for 7th/8th place)
Selection Criteria - County First Team selection, for both friendly matches and CMW, is based on individual performances at County Championships and other key HLG competitions /external 36-hole events, previous County experience, commitment and availability. Current WHS handicap index is also taken into account. The usual qualifying range is from a 'plus' handicap to 2/3. The CMW squad is usually announced after our County Championships.
Elite players, including known newcomers, are invited to attend a series of training and team building sessions over the winter months. Warm up fixtures are scheduled from March to provide the potential first team players with valuable match play experience. We have also reintroduced the popular friendly match against our County Junior team this year too, scheduled in August.

Spirits were high in Team Hampshire's camp as we descended on Mill Hill GC, Middlesex - the hosts for County Match Week 2025. Our squad, comprising Kelly Travers (Alresford GC), Raffi Dyer (Hayling GC), Aimee Paterson (North Hants GC), Becky Scott (Stoneham GC), Jenny Myers (Alresford GC), Stevie Crozier-Hunt (Corhampton GC) and rookies Lily Walker (North Hants GC), Tracey Willmont-Coles (Blackmoor GC) and Georgina Carter (North Hants GC), provided the perfect blend of experienced County players with young, enthusiastic players determined to stamp their mark. After the usual Sunday activities of team photographs, team practices, kit allocations and Captains' meetings, the County teams returned to their respective hotels in preparation for the busy few days ahead.
Monday was a good day for Team Hampshire. In the morning we faced Middlesex and our two opening foursomes pairs of Lily & Becky and Georgina & Aimee both comfortably won their matches, securing us 2 points and settling nerves. Our singles matches were much tighter: Raffi lost to an on-fire Gemma Allman and Stevie lost on the 17th in a real ding-dong battle against her familiar adversary, Saskia Owen. It was all down to Jenny, playing her first CMW singles match, with club team-mate, Kelly, on her bag - and she rose to the occasion with a convincing 6&5 win over her opponent. A great start: Hampshire 3 - Middlesex 2
On Monday afternoon we faced Sussex who had narrowly pipped us 3-2 the year before - and the memories ran deep! The new pairings of Kelly & Jenny and Becky & Stevie worked like magic against Sussex's experienced foursomes specialists; both pairs secured good wins for Hampshire and this winning streak continued in the singles matches with both Raffi & Aimee securing much needed points. Final result: Hampshire 4 - Sussex 1
Tuesday proved a much tougher day with no rest for Hampshire on Day 2. Our morning opponents were Surrey, defending Champions and the team to beat. The two foursomes matches were very evenly matches and it was nip and tuck all the way with Kelly & Jenny losing 1D on the 18th and Aimee & Georgina securing a very good draw on the 18th. Tight margins once again. Following behind, our 3 singles players (Becky, Lily & Raffi) battled hard but the golfing gods were kinder to Surrey and we failed to convert any points. Final Result: Surrey 4.5 - Hampshire 0.5
Despite the disappointment of the morning match, our team bounced back to face Kent in the afternoon. The much rested Kent team was definitely quicker off the blocks and gave our Hampshire spectators quite an early scare. Team Hampshire dug deep and in the first foursomes match, Becky & Stevie rallied and reduced a 4 down deficit to A/S on the 15th hole. All to play for - but sadly the momentum swung back in Kent's favour and we lost on the 17th. The 2nd foursomes match of Jenny & Lily (a former junior county pairing) was equally nail-biting with birdies galore from both pairs. The match was tied going up the 18th but Lily's spectacular 2nd shot onto the green secured the match and a much needed point. What a match! Following closely behind, our 3 singles players of Aimee, Raffi & Kelly had equally tough matches. Despite best efforts, Aimee could do nothing to beat her formidable opponent, Millie Thompson, and both Raffi & Kelly had extremely close matches - both losing on the 17th hole. It was excruciatingly close and a bitterly disappointing finish for the team. Final result: Kent 4 - Hampshire 1
We finished mid-table - not quite the result we wanted but we left with our heads held high. Congratulations to Jenny Myers, our top Hampshire point scorer and our rookies, Lily & Georgina, who both gained well deserved points towards their County Colours. A massive thank you to our Hampshire squad - a very talented bunch of team players who played their hearts out with dignity and respect. We were incredibly proud of the whole team, including our dedicated bunch of caddies, notably Tracey (our non-playing reserve) who supported the team through-out. Thank you Tracey!
Finally, a huge vote of thanks to all our spectators - it was so lovely to see so many light blue supporters - and of course to Middlesex and Mill Hill GC for hosting us all so well. Congratulations to Surrey who won all 4 matches - we wish Captain Katrina Davis and Team Surrey the best of luck in the National County Finals in September. I'm sure they will do very well. Next year, we travel to Worthing GC for CMW - our team spirit, energy and commitment will soon pay off.
