Stoneham Cup 2024 - Finals Day at Corhampton GC – Thursday 19th September
2024 Stoneham Cup winners - Bramshaw G.C.
It was a blustery morning as the teams stepped up to the tee for the semi-finals of the coveted Stoneham Cup.
Tia Brammer was first on the tee for Bramshaw and Ailsa Fraser followed from Army.
2nd off was Tammy Rowe from Corhampton, with Vaneshrie Moodley from Royal Winchester following.
The wind played a large part in the morning’s play but all the matches were nip and tuck. It was a close call after the turn for all the teams, with 2 of the matches going to the 19th. However, Bramshaw and Corhampton came through to secure themselves a place in the afternoon finals.
The sun made it’s way through and by the time the final was underway, it was like a summer’s day.
Tammy Rowe again tee’d off for Corhampton to start the afternoon proceedings, followed by Tia Brammer from Bramshaw.
At the turn, Corhampton was up in 4 of the matches, with Bramshaw being ahead in 3. The Stoneham Cup excitement fever then started as Bramshaw turned the tables and went ahead in match one and the supporters were given a thrilling match that was taken to the 20th hole with Bramshaw coming through. The second and third matches were won by Bramshaw and Corhampton consecutively by a convincing margin of 5 and 4.
Corhampton then took the 4th match and Bramshaw the 5th. It was all to play for as the supporters started following the last 2 matches and at the end of a very exciting afternoon, the result came through that Bramshaw had won the last match 3 and 2.
The standard of golf that was played was superb with some audacious shots over the menacing trees protecting the greens. Many congratulations to all the finalists and to Bramshaw for winning the Stoneham Cup.
Thanks go to Corhampton for allowing us the use of their course which was in supreme condition thanks to the greenkeeping staff, and to all the bar and catering staff and to Richard and the pro shop for making the day so successful. Thanks must also go to Gill, the Lady Captain, for her help prior to the competition and her endless help on the day.
