Junior Girls Autumn Meeting 2022

Successful Juniors at their Autumn Meeting

After waking to news of torrential rain overnight and hearing the course at Romsey was closed until a review at 9:30am, I wasn’t sure that this year’s Autumn Meeting would be able to go ahead. Thankfully the rain passed, the sun came out and the greenkeepers at Romsey were able to get the course open in time for 12 girls to take part in the final competition of 2022.

Despite the wet conditions the course had held up surprisingly well but it was still very challenging with play prohibited from all bunkers and a couple of waterlogged holes on the front 9. Even though playing conditions and scoring was hard each and every girl in the field forged ahead.

Unfortunately the inclement weather only held off for so long, and with the first group making their way up 18 we heard the first rumbles of thunder and saw the flashes of lightning. Luckily all groups had played 12 holes and a decision was made to reduce the competition to 12 holes. Due to course conditions the competition was non-qualifying.

There were some very close scores over the completed holes with a number of girls in contention. In third place with 19 points was Olivia Diment (Corhampton), our scratch winner with 20 points nett and 17 points scratch was Cara Patient (Stoneham). The winner of this year’s President’s Cup, which goes to the Hampshire Girls newcomer with the highest score, was awarded to Georgia Richardson (Stoneham) with a score of 17 points.

It was clearly about keeping it in the family today with winner Alima Kassim (Bishopswood) winning on countback from sister, Maryam Kassim (Bishopswood) both with 20 points.
