With the beach alongside and Spinnaker Tower in the distance, 19 girls were not only greeted with fantastic views for their first competition of 2024, they were also welcomed by County President Jane Scott who got everyone underway at Hayling Golf Club.
After a number of weeks of persistent rain across the county, it was a relief to have a few days of drier weather leading up to the first event of the season. Hayling was excellently presented by the greens staff and provided the great test of golf that we knew it would. Thankfully for our girls, while the temperature had dropped quite significantly from the day before, the wind wasn't quite as high as it had been in recent weeks.
By 2pm all our young golfers were out on the course and there was amazing support from a great number of family members who had turned out to help ball spot and watch some of the fabulous shots played throughout the afternoon. While some were eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the 88th Masters Championship, a busy clubhouse of members and guests were treated to a wonderful view of approach shots to the 18th green and were able to witness the final strokes of the round.
As always, it wasn't long until the cards were coming in thick and fast, and with plenty of good scores to input. 35 points was leading the way for quite some time, however towards the back of the field we saw the points rising. Congratulations to Zoe Gannon who won the meeting with a magnificant 42 stableford points. Zoe was closely followed by runner up Connie Lai with 41 points and Tia Brammer who secured 3rd place in the nett competition with 39 points. The scratch prize was very closely contested with both Junior Captain Stevie Crozier-Hunt and Rosie Rooney scoring 31 points gross, however it was Rosie who narrowly won the scratch prize on count back.
A huge congratulations to all our prize winners. You can see the full competition results here >>
Thank you to everyone who made the event such a great success including the competitions committee (Noan, Pauline & Jude), our brilliant team of referees (Petro, Ange & Jill) and of course a massive thank you to Hayling Golf Club for hosting us and making us all so very welcome.
