The early morning rain had turned to bright sunshine as teams arrived at Southwick Park GC for the inaugural Bowmaker competition.
We were delighted to be hosting our first ever team Bowmaker competition, designed to give our higher handicap ladies a flavour of playing in a Hampshire competition in a relaxed atmosphere.
The field was relatively small, but teams had travelled from across the County, including a team from the Isle of Wight. The Petersfield team had unfortunately lost their 3rd member due to Covid but they were determined to battle on. One of the highlights of the day was a near hole in 1 from Elspeth Dixon from Blackmoor GC who’s tee shot on the tricky par 3 7th hole lipped out when it seemed certain to drop. It was an easy tap in for birdie though.
Despite the challenges of the ditches and water around the course everyone finished with a smile on their face having completed their first Hampshire competition. Congratulations to the winning team of Patricia Raymer, Yvonne Richardson (both Corhampton GC) and Kate Dymott (Lee-on-the-Solent GC) and our runners up from Shanklin & Sandown GC, Lorraine Harley, Clare McLaren Clark and Victoria Guildford.
Thanks go to Neal Grist and his team at Southwick Park GC for looking after us so well on the day.
